The North East Combined Authority has approved an \u00a38.48million investment to expand Newcastle College\u2019s Energy Academy.<\/p>\n

The funding will support the construction of a new building next to the existing site, doubling its size and creating an Energy Campus that will triple student capacity.<\/p>\n

This expansion aligns with the North East\u2019s ambition to lead the UK\u2019s green energy revolution, with 4,500 new jobs expected on the River Tyne over the next decade and the sector\u2019s workforce projected to grow to over 24,000.<\/p>\n

The project is part of the Investment Zone skills programme and supports the North East Local Growth Plan. During a recent visit, North East Mayor Kim McGuinness and North Tyneside Mayor Karen Clark praised the Academy\u2019s role in preparing young people for careers in offshore and renewable energy.<\/p>\n

Principal of Newcastle College Jon Ridley described the expansion as a transformative step for skills development and industry collaboration.<\/p>\n
